Mansion House Windows

A lot of clients do not require new steel windows. This may be because the existing windows have a good few more years left in them or the client doesn't want to disturb the asthetics of the building with double glazed windows.

Their are various services that we can provide and all jobs are tailored to the customers needs. However there are some requirements that are very common.

This is the main stay of a refurbishment project.

Customers windows may have been poorly maintained over the years and the resultant affect is that the windows or doors do not close properly and so become difficult to operate and draughty. This is usually due to the build up of lots of coats of paint where decorators have not stripped the window back to its original galvanised coating prior to redecorating.

There are different levels of easing these windows ranging from:-

  • 'chipping' off the paintwork to the meeting surfaces of the opening windows
  • Redecorating (which is carried out by others).
  • Reglazing any broken glass
  • Renewing any missing ironmongery
  • Draught proofing the original windows
  • We also ease the hinge areas of the windows by 'freeing' them up and oiling them.
  • The existing furniture is also oiled so they work easier.

  • Remove the windows from their openings and temporarily board up.
  • Return the windows to our factory and deglaze.
  • The windows are then shot blasted back to their original steel surface
  • Any new sections required are welded in (where practical)
  • Windows are then wet galvanised finished and spray coated to a colour
  • Supply and fit any new ironmongery required ((including making bespoke ironmongery where neccessary)
  • Return to site with the finished window and refit into the existing aperture.
  • Then reglaze with the specified glass which can include genuine leaded lights or stained glass.

RTD finish handleA lot of properties have windows where the existing ironmongery may be defective or missing. Where this is the case we can usually replace these items with a fitting that will either match exactly or very closely.

On the rare occasion where we cannot match the existing fitting closely enough we can arrange for new replica fittings to be manufactured (but this can be very costly).

Although we will endeavor to make your existing windows close as tightly as possible there is always the possibility that the windows will still be draughty. To combat this a lot of our clients opt to have a polyurethane silicone sealant applied to the meeting surface of the opening window. This takes up any gaps in the window and eliminates draughts.
